The “Body-Hat” Syndrome – Beware Of The “Hot Booty” Seven
“The Body-Hat Syndrome” is the third studio album by American hip hop group Digital Underground, released on October 5, 1993, via Tommy Boy Records. The production was handled by the group’s internal team, the D-Flow Production Squad. The album reached number 79 on the Billboard 200 and number 16 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in the United States.
This album marked the inclusion of rappers Saafir and Clee into the group. The lead single, “The Return of the Crazy One,” which samples Parliament’s “Aqua Boogie (A Psychoalphadiscobetabioaquadoloop),” was released on September 21, 1993, and peaked at number 77 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The second single, “Wussup Wit the Luv,” is an anti-racism anthem featuring a guitar solo by Funkadelic’s Michael Hampton and a verse from 2Pac, which reached number 99 on the same chart. Music videos were produced for both singles. Notably, this album includes 2Pac’s final appearance with Digital Underground and features “The Humpty Dance Awards,” a humorous acknowledgment of the numerous artists who sampled “The Humpty Dance” before 1993.
