|“Doo-Bop” is the final studio album by American jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, released posthumously on June 30, 1992, by Warner Bros. Records. Collaborating with hip hop producer Easy Mo Bee, Davis aimed to capture the sounds of New York City streets he heard from his apartment. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the album won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Instrumental Performance the following year.
The project began when Davis enlisted Russell Simmons to find young producers who could help realize his vision. By early 1991, only six tracks were completed before Davis’s passing. Warner Bros. asked Easy Mo Bee to use unreleased trumpet recordings, originally intended for the shelved 1985 album “Rubberband,” to create tracks Davis would have appreciated. The album includes posthumous additions like “High Speed Chase” and “Fantasy,” with a reprise of “Mystery” rounding out its nine tracks.
